Helping Nature Along — Ovulation Induction
As part of our infertility services at Women’s Health Medical Group, we offer ovulation induction. Ovulation induction basically is a method to help your ovaries produce multiple eggs during each menstrual cycle.
What is ovulation induction?
Ovulation induction commonly uses fertility drugs (we use Clomid) to stimulate the follicles in the ovaries to produce multiple eggs during each menstrual cycle. This method provides additional control over the timing of egg release, which increases the likelihood of fertilization. It suits women who are producing low levels of hormones for ovulation, or who are not ovulating at all.
Is ovulation induction only used with in vitro?
No, we use ovulation induction with medication to assist with fertilization naturally through sexual intercourse, or in conjunction with in vitro fertilization.
What is the process of ovulation induction?
First we monitor your ovulation cycle by taking blood samples to measure your hormone levels at different stages of your cycle. Next, we conduct a transvaginal ultrasound to see the development of follicles in the ovaries, along with the appearance and thickness of the lining of the womb.
From there, this is the schedule:
- On the first day of your menstrual cycle, you come in and we take a blood test.
- Then we put you on Clomid for five days after the start of your period.
- This pattern will continue for up to six months.
- If after six months you still have not become pregnant then we’ll reevaluate and likely modify the treatment.
If you’re having trouble getting pregnant, maybe ovulation induction is the answer. Give us a call at Women’s Health Medical Group, 817-346-5336, and let’s talk about it.
